Sony Pictures Entertainment’s new Resident Evil film has reached US$400 million worldwide, Variety reports, becoming the highest-grossing entry in the live-action horror franchise.

Box Office Mojo puts the film’s worldwide earnings at US$399,998,502, with US$157,398,502 coming from the United States and US$242,600,000 from international markets. It placed seventh in the U.S. last weekend, collecting an estimated US$2,525,000 from Friday through Sunday.

Variety reported the US$400 million milestone and the franchise record on Sunday. The reboot adapts CAPCOM’s Resident Evil survival horror game franchise and is its eighth live-action film.

The movie debuted in the United States on September 18, taking first place with an estimated US$60 million in its opening weekend. It arrived in Japanese theaters on October 9 and opened in second place.

Austin Abrams (Weapons, Euphoria, Wolfs) stars as Bryan. The cast also features Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser (Richard Jewell, Black Bird, The Fantastic Four: First Steps).

Zach Cregger (Barbarian, Weapons) directed the reboot and co-wrote its screenplay with Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 4, Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead). Constantin Film and PlayStation Productions produced the film.

The production credits also include Robert Kulzer of Constantin, Roy Lee (Minecraft) of Vertigo Entertainment, Miri Yoon (Woman of the Hour), and PlayStation Productions. Nicole Brown oversaw the film, and Dariusz Wolski served as director of photography.
