Quiztopia, Netflix's eight-episode live-action adaptation of Reiichi Sugimoto and Shinkichi Kato's National Quiz (Kokumin Quiz) manga, premieres on December 17. Netflix Japan unveiled its main trailer and key art on Tuesday.

The trailer has English subtitles and includes fictional commercials conveying government propaganda within the series' world, alongside scenes featuring 8,000 extras.

Netflix's story description places Quiztopia in an alternate Japan where the National Quiz television show has become the country's highest governing authority. Under the National Quiz Law, contestants who survive can have the government grant almost any wish, including money, fame, an enemy's death, the removal of a criminal record or ownership of a national landmark. The show attracts enormous audiences, and this cheerfully dystopian society treats even the brutal forced labor imposed on eliminated contestants as entertainment.

At the center is KK, the show's iconic host and the public's foremost provocateur. When he encounters a group planning to overthrow Quiztopia, an incident unfolds that could awaken people captivated by this seductive nightmare.

Takayuki Yamada plays KK. His previous live-action roles include "Train Man" in Densha Otoko, Akira Hattori in Bakuman. and Elizabeth in Gintama.

Teruyuki Yoshida, whose live-action credits include An Older Guy's VR First Love and My Brother’s Husband, directs the series and writes the scripts with Maggy. Yasunori Nishiki is composing the music.

The series will debut on Netflix on December 17.
