Writer Miri Mikawa and artist Kairi Shimotsuki will launch Dragon Country Fantasy on November 24. The manga follows Hiori, who disguises herself as a man to avenge her sister and change the law.
Shinchosha’s Kurage Bunch website announced Friday that writer Miri Mikawa and artist Kairi Shimotsuki will debut Dragon Country Fantasy (Ryū no Kuni Gensō) on November 24.
The story takes place in Dragon Plains (Ryū no Hara), a realm that protects dragons’ sleep. Women unable to hear dragons’ voices face contempt as “Yūshi,” or wanderers. Men who can hear those voices also face hatred.
Hiori seeks revenge for her older sister, who was killed as a Yūshi, and wants to rewrite the country’s laws. She disguises herself as a man, approaches the imperial throne and marries Haruhana, the former emperor’s daughter, who carries a major secret herself.
Mikawa and aki began the original Sugar Apple Fairy Tale light novels in April 2010. The series concluded with volume 17 in February 2015.
Collector’s editions of the first three volumes shipped on the following schedule:
- Volume 1: December 2022
- Volume 2: February 2023
- Volume 3: March 2023
Yen Press licensed both the original light novels and Yozora no Udon’s manga adaptation. The novels also inspired a 2023 anime spanning two cours, each a quarter-year broadcast period.
Shimotsuki’s Brave10 manga became a television anime in 2012. Crunchyroll streamed it during its Japanese broadcast, and NIS America released a Blu-ray Disc box set in 2013.
Shimotsuki began Arthur Bright in Tokuma Shoten’s Comic Zenon magazine in May 2017. The manga concluded with its fourth volume, released in June 2019.
Shimotsuki’s Rusted Armors: Dawn (Sabiiro no Armor: Reimei) ran in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Gene magazine from May 2021 until May 2022.
