The company attributed those changes to shifting market conditions and its assessment of the global business outlook.
Switch 2 launched in June 2025 and sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide in four days. Nintendo says that set its hardware record for global sales during the first four days.
The system sold 5.82 million units in its first fiscal quarter, which ended in June 2025. By December 31, the previous fiscal year's third-quarter close, sales exceeded 17 million, passing Wii U's lifetime total of 13.56 million.
The original Switch launched in March 2017. By the end of 2022, it had outsold Sony's PlayStation 4 and Nintendo's Game Boy/Game Boy Color.
Last February, Switch passed Nintendo DS's 154.02 million lifetime sales to become Nintendo's bestselling console. It now ranks second among all consoles, behind only PlayStation 2.
