Yayū Murata Plans Kickstarter for Across the Strange Edge Volume 2 and Hardcover Collection
The campaign opens November 19 with a €7,000 goal and a December 17 deadline.

Yayū Murata announced a Kickstarter for Across the Strange Edge’s second English volume and a deluxe hardcover collecting volumes 1–2. If funded, digital and physical editions will arrive in May 2027.
Yayū Murata announced Wednesday that a Kickstarter campaign will fund the second English volume of Across the Strange Edge (Okashiki Sekai no Kyōkaisen). It will also support a deluxe hardcover collecting the first two volumes, with a special cover created in collaboration with Takashi Kumatani.
The campaign launches November 19 and aims to raise €7,000 (about US$7,900) by December 17. If funded, the books will receive digital and physical releases in May 2027.
Two additional deluxe hardcover volumes are planned. Rewards for the upcoming campaign include an original shikishi art board and art prints.
Murata opened a Kickstarter for the first volume’s English edition on April 1. It raised €8,774 (about US$9,900), surpassing its €3,200 (about US$3,600) target. Physical rewards began shipping September 8.
The project page introduces Misuzu, who has never understood true friendship. Her mother died when she was young, and her father was always busy. She grew up showing little emotion and struggling to form close connections.
Her cheerful, energetic classmate Chizuru faces a different kind of isolation. She can see beings from outside this world, which causes others to avoid her.
An unsettling supernatural incident brings them together on the night of a summer festival. When Misuzu’s classmates nearly trick her out of money, Chizuru intervenes with a warning from a spirit lingering behind Misuzu.
That strange meeting gradually brings the girls closer. As they spend time together, they begin sharing their separate “worlds.” During that short summer, they quietly develop an unmistakably special bond.
Their growing closeness also leads them toward a boundary they were never supposed to cross. Soon, the worlds they inhabit begin quietly drawing them apart.
Across the Strange Edge began as an award-winning one-shot on Shogakukan’s Manga ONE platform. Serialization started there in 2020. Shogakukan released the fifth and final collected volume in August 2021.
Murata’s I'm singing above the cloud, waiting for you. (Unjō ni Utaite, Kimi wo Matsu) debuted in July 2024 and ended March 6. Houbunsha published its fifth volume on March 13.
