Samurai Harem Returns With One-Shot Marking Its 20th Anniversary

Akita Shoten's Young Champion Retsu published a new one-shot for Yuu Minamoto's Samurai Harem: Asu no Yoichi on Tuesday. It appeared in the magazine's ninth issue of the year.

Titled “Asu no Yoichi! 2026 Egao no Riyū,” the chapter marks the manga's 20th anniversary.

The story follows Yoichi, a young swordsman who has spent a long time training alone in the mountains. At 17, his father orders him to continue his training with the Ikaruga family to improve his skills.

When Yoichi arrives in town, he discovers that the family's four beautiful sisters run the Ikaruga dojo.

Minamoto began the manga in Akita Shoten's Monthly Shōnen Champion in May 2006 and finished it in February 2011. Akita Shoten collected it in 15 volumes, while Tokyopop released eight volumes in North America.

A television anime adaptation followed in 2009. Section23 Films/Sentai Filmworks released it as Samurai Harem.

Minamoto's other manga include:

• Haru Polish, created with Bamboo Blade writer Masahiro Totsuka, follows a high-school girl in a swordfighting club. It began in Akita Shoten's Monthly Shōnen Champion in 2011 and concluded in November 2012.
• Temp Ninja Akabane (Haken no Ninja Akabane) ran on Akita Shoten's Manga Cross website from July 2019 to March 2023. Akita Shoten released its fourth and final volume in June 2023.
• The Night Tale of Princess Kasen: That Beauty, Cuts Through the Darkness of the Palace (Kasen Kōshu Yawa: Sono Reijin, Kōkyū no Yami o Kiru) debuted in 2019 and ended in February 2025. Akita Publishing shipped its sixth volume in April 2024.
• We're at Odds with Each Other (Watashi-tachi wa Kakechigatteiru), Minamoto's latest manga, launched on Akita Shoten's Champion Cross manga platform in October 2024 and remains ongoing. Akita Shoten published its third volume on May 8.

The Night Tale of Princess Kasen adapts the light novel series by author Tōko Kisaki and illustrator Roro Kamijō, which began in 2018.
