Publisher Activision describes Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice as a single-player, third-person action-adventure game with RPG elements. Hidetaka Miyazaki directed the game, which Activision published.
Players control a hardened warrior seeking to rescue his master, a young lord descended from an ancient bloodline, and avenge himself against his greatest enemy.
The setting reimagines Japan's late-1500s Sengoku era, a bloody, brutal period of relentless struggles between life and death. Its protagonist, the “one-armed wolf,” is a disgraced, disfigured warrior saved from near death.
Players confront towering enemies using lethal prosthetic tools and powerful ninja skills. Combat combines stealth, vertical movement, and bloody, direct clashes.
The game's promotional description urges players to pursue revenge, reclaim their honor, and devise ingenious ways to kill.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice arrived on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC through Steam in March 2019. Worldwide sales exceeded 2 million copies in fewer than 10 days.
