Frontier Works announced Friday that the television anime adaptation of Atamoto’s Raccoon Dog and Fox (Tanuki to Kitsune) manga will premiere October 4. The company also unveiled a key visual and the main staff.
The series will run within “Animori,” a program airing Sundays at 7:00 a.m. on TV Tokyo and its affiliates. The anime marks the franchise’s 10th anniversary.
Tommy Hino (Kumarba (TV 3), Crane Game Girls) directs at Akatsuki Media Studio. Rika Kihara (Sylvanian Families Freya no Piece of Secret) writes the scripts.
The manga follows the everyday lives of a slightly clueless raccoon dog and a mischievous fox who enjoys teasing him. The close friends share a home on a mountain. Their friends include a wolf, a bear, a rabbit and birds.
Atamoto started serializing the manga on X, formerly Twitter, and Frontier Works publishes the print edition. The series has spawned a wide range of merchandise and stamps for LINE, the messaging and social media app.
The franchise’s publishing lineup includes:
- 10 volumes of the manga.
- Three picture book volumes.
- A new manga series, Tanuki to Kitsune Yurutto, whose second volume ships October 15.
The book franchise has 1.35 million copies in circulation overall. An earlier series of web anime shorts premiered in February 2018.
