Haikyu!! staff released a teaser for the Where Monsters Go short anime special and visuals for it and Haikyu!! Vs. The Little Giant. Both anime will screen together in theaters next year.

Haikyu!! staff unveiled a teaser Wednesday for the short anime special Where Monsters Go (Haikyū!! Bakemono-tachi no Iku Tokoro). They also revealed new visuals for the special and the franchise's second sequel film.

The special covers Fukurōdani Academy's must-win volleyball match against Mujinazaka High School. It will accompany Haikyu!! Vs. The Little Giant (Gekijōban Haikyū!! VS Chiisana Kyojin) when the film reaches theaters next year.

The film picks up after HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle (Gekijōban Haikyu!! Gomi Suteba no Kessen), the first installment in the two-part Haikyu!! Final sequel film project. Susumu Mitsunaka returns as writer and director at Production I.G.

In Crunchyroll's synopsis of the first film, Shoyo Hinata joins Karasuno High's volleyball club to follow his idol, a former Karasuno player called the “Little Giant.” He must then partner with Tobio Kageyama, his middle school nemesis.

Their conflicting playing styles become an unexpected strength. The story asks whether that combination can defeat rival Nekoma High in the eagerly awaited “Dumpster Battle,” an ultimate showdown between two underdog teams.

The first film debuted in Japan on February 16, 2024, with IMAX screenings also available. Mitsunaka, whose credits include the first and third Haikyu!! television anime, directed the film and wrote its screenplay.

During its first three days, the film sold 1,529,000 tickets and earned 2,230,465,540 yen, approximately US$14.12 million. North American theaters screened it on May 31, 2024, in Japanese with English subtitles and with an English dub.

The anime's staff announced both films in August 2022. The first centers on the destined clash between Karasuno High and Nekoma High.
