J-Novel Club publishes the novels in English. The story takes place in a world overrun by Fiends, where young prodigy Alus Reigin has defeated more Fiends and recovered more lost human territory than anyone alive.
Alus asks to retire from military service at 16. Circumstances tied to his position as the nation's No. 1 Magicmaster, ranked above more than 100,000 others, instead send him to a special magical institute.
There, he conceals his identity while studying and training two beautiful Magicmaster girls as his successors. He also continues fighting Fiends in secret.
Izushiro began posting the novels on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in 2015. Hobby Japan released volume 20 in December 2025.
Yoneshiro's The Greatest Magicmaster's Retirement Plan - The Alternative - manga debuted in Square Enix's Manga UP! app in 2020. It concluded with its 10th compiled volume, which shipped in January 2024. Comikey publishes it digitally in English.
That series was the novels' second manga adaptation. Yū Uonuma drew the first, which ran on Hobby Japan's website and spanned two volumes.
