Danganronpa 2x2 Switch 2 Edition Moves to Game-Key Card Format
Customers who ordered the Psycho Tropical Vacation Package from Spike Chunsoft’s US store must place new pre-orders.

Spike Chunsoft will release Danganronpa 2x2 on Switch 2 as a game-key card instead of a full game card. The change leaves its early 2027 launch and pre-orders for other platforms unaffected.
Spike Chunsoft announced Wednesday that Danganronpa 2x2’s Nintendo Switch 2 edition will use a game-key card instead of a full game card. The release pairs Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair with a new alternate scenario.
Spike Chunsoft Official Store US will cancel pre-orders for the Danganronpa 2x2 Psycho Tropical Vacation Package. Customers must order the game-key card package again. Those who ordered the package elsewhere will receive the game-key card version.
The company said it reached the decision after careful consideration and did not make it lightly. It said the change leaves the game’s release, pre-orders for other platforms, and all other games unaffected.
Game-key cards are physical cartridges containing a key rather than the game itself. That key unlocks the digital version from Nintendo’s eShop for play.
Originally scheduled for 2026, Danganronpa 2x2 will launch in early 2027 on:
- Nintendo Switch 2
- Nintendo Switch
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- PC via Steam
The alternate story, called “Slayhem” mode, changes the original game’s victims and culprits following a particular incident. It will run about 35 hours—five hours longer than the original—with 20% more content.
Spike Chunsoft also described the new story’s content size as comparable to the original. The included original game will feature updated visuals and improved production values.
The Danganronpa 2x2 Psycho Tropical Vacation Package contains:
- An RSVLTS Reversible Psycho Tropical Hat
- Kidrobot 3-inch Psycho Tropical Monokuma and Monomi figures
- A soundtrack
- A clamshell-style outer box
Last November, Spike Chunsoft announced that Kinuta Ōshiro would take over as Monomi following voice actress Takako Sasuga’s death. Last October, it announced Wasabi Mizuta as Monokuma’s replacement voice following voice actress TARAKO’s death.
The original game follows students from the elite Hope’s Peak Academy on Jabberwock Island, a former tourist destination now uninhabited but strangely pristine. Their extremely cute teacher brings them there for a school trip promising affection and heart-racing excitement.
The sunny fun ends when Monokuma returns and restarts his deadly game. Trapped in a cycle of mutual killing, the students must unravel the island’s mysteries to escape, though discovering the truth can bring its own despair.
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair debuted in Japan on PlayStation Portable in July 2012. Its PlayStation Vita release followed in Japan in October 2013 and the West in September 2014. Multiple ports have followed.
The Danganronpa Decadence collection shipped physically exclusively for Switch in North America and Europe in December 2021. It contains:
- Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Anniversary Edition
- Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
- Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
- Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp, a bonus board game
The collection launched in Japan in November 2021 as Danganronpa Trilogy Pack + Happy Danganronpa S: Chōkōkōkyū no Nangoku Saikoro Kasshuku. Each game is also sold separately as a digital Switch release.
The franchise also spans a manga series, three television anime series, an anime special, and an original video anime (OVA) project. Danganronpa 2’s characters also star in the 2016 anime Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School: Despair Arc.
