The new Fairy Princess Minky Momo OVA has announced Show Hayami, Kikuko Inoue, Kazuyuki Okitsu, and Mie Sonozaki as additional cast members.

The official website for Fairy Princess Minky Momo A Duo of Sincerity Toward a Dream of Longing (Mahō no Princess Minky Momo Akogare no Yume e Magokoro no Duo) announced four additional cast members on Friday.

The new original video anime (OVA) in the Fairy Princess Minky Momo magical girl franchise added:

  • Show Hayami as the King of Diginarsa
  • Kikuko Inoue as the Queen of Diginarsa
  • Kazuyuki Okitsu as Momo’s kind father
  • Mie Sonozaki as Momo’s mother, who worries a little too much

The anime opens in Japanese theaters on November 13. It will be the franchise’s first new OVA in 32 years, following 1994’s Minky Momo in The Station of Your Memories.

The previously announced cast includes:

  • Kurumi Haruki as Minky Momo
  • Fukushi Ochiai as Dettabook
  • Natsumi Fujiwara as Chamocha
  • Rie Kugimiya as Pipirupi
  • Tomohito Takatsuka as Rubato
  • Yōko Hikasa as Peter

Ayumu Watanabe directs the anime at Ashi Production. The production team includes:

  • Director: Ayumu Watanabe (Witch Hat Atelier, Akane-banashi, Space Brothers)
  • Character designers: Hiroshi Watanabe, main animator on the original 1982–1983 anime, and Mari Tominaga, a key animator on Minky Momo in The Station of Your Memories
  • Script: Deko Akao (both seasons of Arakawa Under the Bridge, Pretty Rhythm Aurora Dream)
  • Sound director: Katsunori Shimizu (Magical Girl Ore, Citrus)
  • Sound production: Zack Promotion
  • Music: Tomoki Hasegawa (Minky Momo in The Station of Your Memories, Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!)
  • Design cooperation: Studio Live
  • Distribution: MOVIC and Giggly Box

The story takes place in Diginarsa, a land of dreams and hopes sustained by dream energy. As humans lose their dreams and hopes, that energy dwindles, threatening the land’s existence.

With no other options left, Diginarsa’s king sends his three companions—Chamocha, Dettabook, and Pipirupi—to seek Minky Momo’s help.

Momo receives a smartphone for her 12th birthday. After meeting the king’s companions, she awakens as Minky Momo and commits to saving Diginarsa.

While Momo gathers dream energy, a mysterious app gains popularity around the city. Children share frivolous dreams on it, driven solely by recognition or higher viewing numbers. This leads Momo to question everyone’s dreams.

The original 1982–1983 television anime follows a princess sent from a magical world to Earth to help people regain lost hopes and dreams. Known on Earth as Gigi, Minky uses magic and receives help from her magical dog, monkey, and bird as she experiences extraordinary adventures.

William Winckler Productions offered that description when it launched English-dubbed feature versions of the series on Amazon Instant Video in 2015.

The original series spawned a television follow-up in 1991–1992 and several OVAs. Harmony Gold USA released the Fairy Princess Minky Momo: La ronde in my dream OVA in English under the title Gigi and the Fountain of Youth.

Crunchyroll started streaming the original television anime in January 2024.
