Roji’s Ao and Midori Manga Set for Live-Action TV Adaptation on October 5

A website launched Saturday announced a live-action television adaptation of Roji’s boys-love manga Ao and Midori (Ao to Midori). The series premieres on October 5.

Naoya Kusakawa will play Midori Yamamura, while Hidekazu Chinen will portray Ao Hayama.

The broadcast and streaming schedule includes:

• Lemino: advance online streaming begins October 5 at 10:00 a.m.
• BS Asahi: broadcasts begin October 5 at 11:24 p.m.
• TV Kanagawa: broadcasts begin October 5 at 11:30 p.m.
• HBC, RKB Mainichi Broadcasting, and CBC TV: broadcasts begin October 8.
• TVer: streaming follows the BS Asahi broadcasts.

Three directors are handling the series:

• Nao Nomura, who worked on the live-action Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko series.
• Hitomi Kitagawa.
• Saki Michimoto.

Ayumi Shimo, whose credits also include the live-action Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko series, is writing the scripts.

The manga follows Ao and Midori. Ao stands out in both sports and academics at high school, but his innocence earns him the nickname “baby.”

Midori loves Ao, but various problems prevent him from being honest. Their feelings are mutual, yet each believes his love is unrequited.

During high school, ideas of “normalcy” trap both boys and keep them from expressing their feelings. Their relationship gradually deepens over the next eight years as they leave school and enter working life.

France Shoin released the first manga volume in August 2023. Printemps Shuppan published the second on May 28.

Another boys-love manga by Roji, Countdown to Yes, previously received a live-action television adaptation that premiered in January. Animate International publishes that manga and Roji’s All About My Two Dads in English.
