Wandance Stage Adaptation Set for Tokyo in March 2027

A website launched Saturday announced that Coffee's Wandance manga will receive a stage adaptation. Titled Wandance on Stage, it will run March 19–28, 2027, at MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives Box1000 in Tokyo.

Taki, a member of THE JET BOY BANGERZ from Exile Tribe, will star as Kaboku. Imagine Itō will direct the production and write its script.

The production plans to audition ensemble dancers in fall.

A live-action film adaptation will open in Japan on November 27. A television anime adaptation premiered in Japan in October 2025, with Disney+ streaming episodes as they aired there.

Kodansha USA Publishing releases the manga in English. Its synopsis follows Kaboku, a boy whose encounter with a dancing girl named Wanda sparks an intense desire to dance himself.

Kaboku has always followed others' expectations about his parents, school and future. That predictable path feels safe but empty.

One night, while staying late at school, he discovers a girl dancing alone. Her uninhibited movements transform an empty stretch of concrete into a canvas.

The girl is Hikari Wanda, a member of the hip-hop dance club, and Kaboku is instantly captivated. Joining her means a long journey beyond his comfort zone: almost everyone in the club is a girl, and all dance far better than he does.

The uncertainty frightens Kaboku, but it also gives him his first sense of freedom.

The publisher presents the manga as an inspiring coming-of-age story for readers of Blue Period and Your Lie in April. Its description highlights exciting Japanese hip-hop dance scenes and offbeat, appealing characters, inviting readers to join in.

Coffee began Wandance in Afternoon magazine in 2019 and also publishes it simultaneously through Kodansha's Magazine Pocket app. Kodansha released the 15th collected volume in December 2025. Kodansha USA Publishing will release volume 14 in English in November 2026.
