Kodansha USA Publishing announced Thursday that manga creator Saka Mikami will attend its Kodansha House pop-up in New York City on October 10–11. Mikami will hold a Q&A and signing on October 10, followed by another signing on October 11.

Tickets for both events will be distributed through a random drawing at kodanshahouse.com. Applications open September 3 and close September 10 at 6:00 p.m. EDT.

Kodansha House returns October 9–18 at 508 West 37th Street. New York Comic Con runs October 8–11 at the Javits Center, two blocks away.

Kodansha USA Publishing releases Mikami’s The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity manga in English. Its story follows Rintaro, a second-year student at Chidori High, a boys’ school for society’s outcasts with the lowest grades.

Next door is Kikyo Girls’ High, where wealthy, upper-class families educate their daughters. Despite his intimidating face, Rintaro has a kind heart. While helping at his family’s patisserie, he meets Kaoruko, and they immediately connect.

Their happiness faces trouble when Rintaro learns Kaoruko attends Kikyo. She seems unaware of how serious that makes their situation. The story asks whether they can find their own path while avoiding their classmates’ traps, both literal and figurative.

Mikami began the manga on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket website in October 2021. Kodansha released its 23rd collected volume on June 9.

Kodansha USA published English volume 14 on August 11. Volume 15 ships October 13.

The television anime adaptation debuted in July 2025 on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, and BS11. Its Netflix streaming launches followed this schedule:

  • Japan: July 6, 2025.
  • Southeast Asia: July 13, 2025.
  • Outside Japan and Southeast Asia: September 7, 2025.

Kodansha House made its West Coast debut in Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo neighborhood on July 2–12. Kodansha hosted Blue Lock creators Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yūsuke Nomura, along with Witch Hat Atelier creator Kamome Shirahama.

Last October, the New York City pop-up welcomed:

  • Atsushi Ohkubo, creator of Fire Force and Soul Eater.
  • Fujita, creator of Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku.
  • Suu Morishita, creator of A Sign of Affection.
