AUGUST Inc. announced Friday that it is developing Uta Macross, a revival of the Macross franchise’s first rhythm game. The company plans to release it on iOS, Android, and Steam next spring.
The franchise’s English social media accounts teased Japanese and English language support. AUGUST will open a crowdfunding campaign Thursday on Japan’s Campfire site to help fund development.
The campaign will run for 54 days with a goal of 30,000,000 yen, approximately US$190,000. Funds will support additional songs, supported platforms, and other content.
The rebuilt game will retain popular material from its former live service version, including live performances and artwork. Redesigned smartphone controls will also accommodate mouse and keyboard play, and the game will support offline play.
The standard edition will include:
- 50 songs.
- More than 1,000 Plate illustrations of 4-star rarity or higher to win and collect.
- More than 20 outfits for each singer.
- A Plate gacha system that is entirely free to use.
Multiple DLC releases will bring back the remaining songs from the live service game. They will also add selected Plates and outfits.
AUGUST describes Uta Macross as a rhythm game bringing together singers, pilots, and numerous classic songs that helped define the franchise. Its characters come from the television series and theatrical films associated with these works:
- The Super Dimension Fortress Macross
- Macross Plus
- Macross 7
- Macross Frontier
- Macross Delta
The original Uta Macross: Smartphone De Culture (Uta Macross Sumaho De Culture) launched on iOS and Android in August 2017. Its debut had been delayed from spring 2017, and service ended in June 2022.
The game included Macross Delta’s tactical music unit Walkūre alongside characters from other Macross series, including Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee. Billed as the franchise’s first super-dimensional rhythm game, it offered a range of popular songs from the Macross universe.
