Kotoko announced on X (formerly Twitter) on September 1 that Megumi Dorokawa (Share House Nile) will replace Yone as the manga’s artist. Dorokawa will begin with chapter 17 on September 10.
The series is Fake It to Break It! I Faked Amnesia to Break off My Engagement and Now He’s All Lovey-Dovey?! (Konyaku Haki o Neratte Kioku Sōshitsu no Furi o Shitara, Sokkenai Taidodatta Konyakusha ga "Kioku o Ushinau Mae no Kimi wa, Ore ni Beta Boredatta" to Iu, Tondemonai Uso o Tsuki Hajimeta).
Manga UP! Global publishes the manga in English. Its synopsis follows Viola, a viscount’s daughter engaged to Philip Laurenson, a charming, popular duke’s heir. They seem poorly matched, and their quiet tea parties bring them no closer.
After a minor accident, Viola pretends to have amnesia to escape the engagement. Philip surprises her by claiming they were deeply in love and that she called him “Phil”—claims that are untrue.
As their engagement nears collapse, romance starts to grow between the inexperienced lord and the oblivious lady.
Writer Kotoko and artist Yone began the manga on Square Enix’s Manga UP! service in Japan in 2022. Square Enix released its third collected volume in February 2025. J-Novel Club publishes the original light novels in English.
Other works by Kotoko also have anime adaptations in development. Kotoko and artist Kaname Hanamiya’s manga The Final-Boss Prince is Somehow Obsessed with the Chubby Villainess: Reincarnated Me (Odebu Akujo ni Tensei Shitara, Nazeka Last Boss Ōjisama ni Shūchaku Sareteimasu) is receiving a television anime adaptation.
In February, TO Books announced an anime adaptation of Kotoko’s light novel series I Was Reincarnated as the Heroine on the Verge of a Bad Ending, and I'm Determined to Fall in Love! (Bad End Mokuzen no Heroine ni Tensei Shita Watashi, Konse de wa Renai Suru Tsumori ga Cheat na Ani ga Hanashite Kuremasen!?).
Kotoko began that story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in 2021. TO Books released the first novel volume in January 2022, illustrated by Tsukasa Satsuki.
Satsuki illustrated the first two volumes. Kei Kumanomi took over with volume three in December 2022.
Ikuto Nanase began its manga adaptation, titled Bad End Mokuzen no Heroine ni Tensei Shita Watashi, Konse de wa Renai Suru Tsumori ga Cheat na Ani ga Hanashite Kuremasen!? @COMIC, on TO Books’ Corona EX manga website in June 2022. Tokyopop’s LOVELOVE imprint publishes the manga in English.
