Nintendo revealed a November 5 launch for its Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Gameplay and a trailer showed updated visuals, voice acting, new controls, and expanded features.

Nintendo announced Tuesday that its Nintendo Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches November 5. The company shared gameplay during The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct.

The footage showed updated visuals and the opening area, Kokiri Forest. It also demonstrated combat inside the first dungeon, The Great Deku Tree.

Exploration footage covered Hyrule Field, the main hub, alongside Hyrule Castle Town and Lon Lon Ranch. A new trailer showed additional areas and bosses from across the game and revealed voice acting.

The remake introduces several controls and gameplay changes:

  • Traditional camera controls and new motion controls.
  • A dedicated jump button and a roll dash action.
  • Items that players can assign to ZR and swap through a pop-up menu.
  • A Threads of Time menu that recaps the story and helps identify the next objective.
  • Time that passes in town, unlike in the original.
  • Music played by humming into the Switch 2 microphone.
  • Recognition of music played on an ocarina available for customers to purchase.
  • Additional dialogue.

The game also supports Zelda Notes in the Nintendo Switch App, with these features:

  • Today's Record summarizes the player's progress within the app.
  • Gossip Quests offers a scavenger hunt that awards points redeemable for ocarina music scores.
  • Play Ocarina lets users play those scores in the app.
  • Ocarina of Time Quiz includes more than 2,000 questions.
  • Rupees earned in the app can be used in the game, and vice versa.

Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo will ship in 2027. Each will unlock in-game masks for its corresponding character.

Nintendo also confirmed three matching anniversary products for October 29:

  • A The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 console.
  • A Pro Controller.
  • A carrying case.

The series will also receive a 40th anniversary concert tour. Its regional opening dates and cities are:

  • Tokyo: January 23, opening the tour.
  • North America: Chicago, February 22.
  • Europe: London, April 3.
  • Australia: Melbourne, May 13.

The Direct broadcast opened with a concert performance.

The original Ocarina of Time launched on Nintendo 64 in November 1998 in the U.S. and Japan, followed by Europe and Australia that December. It was the fifth mainline Zelda game and the franchise's first entry with 3D graphics.

The game subsequently returned through releases including:

  • Two collection discs for Nintendo GameCube.
  • Virtual Console on Nintendo Wii.
  • Nintendo Classics on Nintendo Switch.

A Nintendo 3DS remaster, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, arrived in June 2011. Both that release and one GameCube collection disc included The Legend of Zelda: Master Quest.

Master Quest offers different dungeons and is based on a Nintendo 64DD title.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom launched for Nintendo Switch in September 2024. It was the first mainline entry to make Zelda the main playable character instead of Link.

The top-down game's art style resembles the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, which shipped for Switch in September 2019.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom debuted on Switch in May 2023. Nintendo had delayed the sequel from 2022 to spring 2023 to allow more development time.

Nintendo released The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Switch and Nintendo Wii U in March 2017.

The franchise's live-action film will open April 30, 2027, one week ahead of its previously scheduled May 7, 2027 release. That date had followed a delay from March 26, 2027.

The film has no subtitle, unlike most games in the series.

Akira Himekawa adapted Ocarina of Time into a manga in 2000 and has also drawn manga based on other Zelda games. Viz Media released the adaptation in English.
