- Nintendo Switch 2
- PlayStation 5
- Steam
Set after the manga’s events, the game introduces Toshin and Chuechue, two new characters drawn by Fujisaki. Players control Toshin, wielding mythic weapons called Paope to explore dungeons and find new allies.
The game will support four languages:
- English
- Japanese
- Simplified Chinese
- Traditional Chinese
Fujisaki’s original 23-volume Hoshin Engi manga ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1996 to 2000. Viz Media released it in English from 2007 to 2011.
Loosely based on the ancient Chinese novel Fengshen Yanyi, the fantasy story unfolds thousands of years ago. An evil sorceress enchants a powerful dynasty’s emperor, turning him into a mindless puppet. His country falls into ruin, with evil spirits everywhere.
The Confederation of the Immortal Masters devises a daring mission. It sends a young master wizard across the devastated lands to hunt villains and evil warlocks.
The manga received a 26-episode television anime adaptation in 1999. ADV Films released it on DVD as Soul Hunter from 2001 to 2004. Discotek Media issued its own DVD release under that title in June 2016.
A new television adaptation of the original manga, Hakyū Hōshin Engi, debuted in January 2018. Crunchyroll streamed it with English subtitles, while Funimation offered an English dub.
That anime spawned the smartphone game Hakyū Hōshin Engi: Senkai Chronicle. It launched in Japan for iOS and Android in January 2019.
The first stage musical, Musical Hoshin Engi -Mezame no Kiza- (Waking Scratch), ran in January 2019 at Tokyo’s EX Theater Roppongi. A second musical ran from October to November 2020.
