My Hero Academia: Vigilantes adapts a manga spinoff of Kōhei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia. Its story takes place before the main manga begins.
Viz Media’s first-volume synopsis introduces Koichi Haimawari, who failed to qualify as an official hero. He spends his free time helping others with his modest Quirk.
An encounter with local thugs brings him together with two other unlikely heroes. Inexperienced but courageous—or perhaps foolish—they attempt to fight evil, soon learning that bravery alone is insufficient.
The anime’s production team includes:
- Director Kenichi Suzuki, whose credits include Cells at Work! and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
- Animation studio BONES FILM, a newly established company under BONES.
- Series scriptwriter and supervisor Yōsuke Kuroda, returning from the main My Hero Academia anime.
- Character designer Takahiko Yoshida, whose credits include Yowamushi Pedal and Cells at Work!
- Composer Yūki Hayashi, returning from the main anime alongside Shōgo Yamashiro and Yūki Furuhashi.
Kocchi no Kento performed the opening theme, “Kekka Orai” (All’s Well in the End). The four-member rock band yutori performed the ending theme, “Speed.”
Furuhashi and Court began the manga in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump GIGA in August 2016. It relaunched on Shonen Jump+ in December 2016.
Viz Media started publishing it digitally in English in August 2017 and also released print editions. Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service also published the manga digitally in English.
The manga concluded in May 2022 and totaled 15 compiled volumes.
Paprika’s release description presents a fantastical thriller where dreams and reality converge in a dazzling, kaleidoscopic landscape. A revolutionary machine lets scientists enter and record people’s dreams.
When someone steals the device, a fearless detective and a brilliant therapist work together to recover it. They must stop it from reaching a “dream terrorist.”
Based on Yasutaka Tsutsui’s novel, Paprika was Kon’s final feature film before he died from pancreatic cancer in 2010. His other credits include:
- Perfect Blue
- Millennium Actress
- Tokyo Godfathers
- Paranoia Agent
Management of Novice Alchemist follows Sarasa, an orphan who has just graduated from the royal alchemist training school. Her teacher gives her a remote shop, offering a chance at her long-desired, leisurely life as an alchemist.
The countryside shop proves far more dilapidated than she expected. Sarasa gathers ingredients, improves her skills and sells goods, working toward becoming a respectable alchemist while pursuing her own relaxed way of life.
