Uoto Announces Hallucination Meat and New Collaboration With Kyō Yoneshiro
The manga will run in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits and Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon, with launch dates still undecided.
Uoto announced two new manga series: Hallucination Meat and Test Taker/Cheaters. Kyō Yoneshiro will draw the latter, with Uoto writing the story.
Uoto, creator of Orb: On the Movements of the Earth (Chi -Chikyū no Undō ni Tsuite-), announced two upcoming manga series on Friday and Saturday.
Hallucination Meat will debut in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits. No launch date is set, though Uoto expects it this year. He teased the announcement with a diagram of a methane molecule.
For Test Taker/Cheaters, Uoto will write the story and Kyō Yoneshiro will provide the art. The series will run in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon.
Its launch date also remains undecided, but Uoto expects it to begin early next year. His teaser for that announcement featured a pencil and a handgun.
Orb: On the Movements of the Earth ran in Weekly Big Comic Spirits from September 2020 to April 2022. Shogakukan released its eighth and final collected volume in June 2022. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga.
The series earned several honors:
- In April 2022, Uoto became the youngest-ever Grand Prize winner at the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize awards, aged 24.
- It received a nomination for the 68th Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2022.
- It placed 22nd on Da Vinci’s 2022 “Book of the Year” manga list.
The manga’s 25-episode anime adaptation debuted in October 2024. Each episode streamed on Netflix and ABEMA after its broadcast.
Uoto’s 100 Meters (Hyakuemu) also received an anime adaptation, a film that opened in Japan in September 2025. GKIDS screened it in North American theaters in October 2025.
Uoto and Furumachi’s Dr. Muscle Beetle began in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shōnen Champion in January 2025 and concluded in May 2025. Akita Shoten shipped its second collected volume on July 8. The first volume credits Uoto with the original concept.
Yoneshiro began Fabrication: A Fool’s Love (Netsuzō: Chijin no Ai) in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits on August 3. It adapts Junichirō Tanizaki’s 1924 novel Chijin no Ai, published in English as Naomi.
Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ service released Yoneshiro’s one-shot manga “The 11th hour” in October 2025. Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service published an English version.
Yoneshiro also launched And he arrived at the KANON (Ageku no Hate Kanon) in Shogakukan’s Monthly Spirits. The artist began Ōjōgiwa no Imi o Shire! in Weekly Big Comic Spirits in 2020.
