Kodansha said on September 8 that it will announce Gachiakuta’s return once a date is decided. The magazine’s website has listed Kei Urana’s research as the reason for the hiatus.

Kodansha addressed the continuing hiatus of Kei Urana’s Gachiakuta manga on September 8 through Weekly Shōnen Magazine’s official X account, formerly Twitter. The publisher said it would announce the manga’s return once decided.

The latest chapter appeared in this year’s combined 36th and 37th issue, which shipped August 5. The magazine’s website has listed the series as absent for Urana’s research in every issue since then.

The manga’s television anime adaptation will receive a second season. Its first season premiered in Japan in July 2025 on CBC, TBS, and 26 other channels.

Crunchyroll streams the anime and an English dub. Its streaming territories include:

  • North America
  • Central America
  • South America
  • Europe
  • Africa
  • Oceania
  • The Middle East
  • CIS, excluding Russia and Belarus
  • The Indian subcontinent

Kodansha USA Publishing releases the manga in English. Its synopsis follows Rudo, who lives in a floating town’s slums. The poor struggle beneath wealthy residents who enjoy lavish lives and throw their garbage over the edge into an abyss.

After a false murder accusation leads to his wrongful conviction, Rudo receives an unimaginable sentence: being thrown over the edge alongside the trash. On the surface below, humanity’s discarded waste has spawned vicious monsters.

To uncover the truth and take revenge on those who sent him into Hell, Rudo must master a new power. He must also join the Cleaners, a group fighting the Pit’s enormous trash beasts.

Urana began Gachiakuta in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in February 2022, with Hideyoshi Ando credited for graffiti design. Kodansha released the manga’s 19th collected volume on July 16.
