Koruri to Adapt Sekina Aoi’s Asobi no Kankei Novels Into Manga
The manga debuts in Hakusensha’s Young Animal on September 25, with Kurehito Misaki credited for character design.

Sekina Aoi’s Asobi no Kankei novels are getting a manga adaptation by Koruri. The story follows a board game cafe worker hiding his feelings for a coworker who already has a boyfriend.
Hakusensha’s Young Animal announced in its 18th issue on Friday that Koruri will adapt Sekina Aoi’s Asobi no Kankei novels into manga. The adaptation starts in the magazine’s next issue on September 25, with Kurehito Misaki credited as character designer.
The story centers on dropout Kotarou Tokiwa, who works as substitute manager at the board game cafe Kurumaza. He falls for coworker Mifuru Takanashi, a fashionable girl who has no interest in board games.
Mifuru already has a boyfriend, so Kotarou makes up a girlfriend to conceal his feelings. His supposedly imaginary girlfriend turns out to be a regular customer at the cafe.
Kadokawa publishes the novels through its Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint, with illustrations by Misaki. The fourth novel shipped on August 20.
Aoi and Ryō Tsuzura began My Crush’s Crush (Boku no Suki na Hito ga Suki na Hito) in Hakusensha’s Young Animal Zero in November 2022. Its seventh collected volume shipped in Japan on August 28. Yen Press licensed the manga, which is also getting an anime adaptation.
Aoi and Sabotenn started the Gamers! novels in 2014. Tsubasa Takahashi’s manga adaptation began in Kadokawa’s Monthly Shōnen Ace in October 2016.
A television anime adaptation premiered in July 2017. Crunchyroll streamed it as it aired in Japan, while Funimation streamed an English dub and later released the series on home video.
Aoi’s earlier light novels, Seitokai no Ichizon, inspired the television anime The Student Council’s Discretion in 2009 and Student Council’s Discretion Lv. 2 in 2012. Sentai Filmworks released the first on home video in March 2015 and the second in May 2015.
