Tokyo Game Show Cuts September 21 Finale as Typhoon Dujuan Approaches
Monday ticket holders will receive refunds, while organizers plan to stream some scheduled stage events.

Tokyo Game Show 2026 organizers canceled Monday, September 21, over typhoon safety concerns. Sunday, September 20, will proceed with unchanged hours.
Tokyo Game Show 2026 organizers announced Saturday that they have canceled the entire event day on Monday, September 21, because of an approaching typhoon. Sunday, September 20, will go ahead as scheduled, with no changes to opening hours.
Organizers expect strong winds and heavy rain from Monday afternoon. They warned that possible public transportation disruptions could prevent visitors and other attendees from getting home safely.
They said safety for attendees, exhibitors, staff and everyone else involved took priority in their decision. Typhoon No. 25, also known as Typhoon Dujuan, is currently expected to approach Japan’s Kanto region on Monday.
People who bought Monday tickets will receive refunds. Organizers also plan to stream some stage events originally scheduled for that day.
This year was set to be the event’s first five-day edition. Its schedule comprised:
- September 17–18: Business days.
- September 19–21: Planned public days.
- September 21: A national holiday in Japan.
Attendance reached 53,630 on Thursday and 52,545 on Friday. Last year’s four-day event drew 263,101 people.
Tokyo Game Show’s format has changed several times since its launch:
- 1996: Began as a three-day event.
- 1997: Expanded to two events annually, in spring and fall.
- 2002: Returned to one three-day event annually.
- 2007: Expanded to four days.
