In one district with 16 magical girls, administrators announce that they must cut their numbers in half to address a magical energy problem. The girls initially compete to gather more "magical candy" than their rivals. As the rules grow distorted, the contest becomes a deadly struggle to survive.

The first Magical Girl Raising Project anime ran for 12 episodes and debuted in Japan on AT-X in October 2016. Crunchyroll streamed it during its Japanese broadcast.

Endō began the novels under Takarajimasha's Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! Bunko imprint in June 2012. Takarajimasha released volume 18 in November 2023.

Volumes two and three, released in November and December 2012, respectively, tell the "Restart" arc. Yen Press started releasing the novels in English in June 2017.

Nori-Senbei began a manga adaptation of "Restart" in Kadokawa's Monthly Comp Ace magazine in 2016. Kadokawa released one collected volume in September 2016.
