Subaru and Subaru will return in Weekly Young Magazine’s 48th issue on October 26 after a break. Shūichi Shigeno’s manga continues the shared storyline of Initial D and MF Ghost.

Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine announced Friday in its 43rd issue of the year that Shūichi Shigeno’s Subaru and Subaru (Subaru to Subaru) is taking a break. The manga will resume in the magazine’s 48th issue on October 26.

Kodansha USA Publishing has licensed the series. Its first collected volume in English is scheduled for April 6, 2027.

According to Kodansha USA’s synopsis, the story takes place one year after Takumi Fujiwara’s student Kanata Rivington made his mark on Japan’s hugely popular MFG street racing circuit.

Two newcomers want to compete: Subaru Sato of Gunma Prefecture and Subaru Kudo of Kanagawa. Their partnership brings the worlds of Initial D and MF Ghost together as they set out to create the ultimate street racing legend.

Shigeno began Subaru and Subaru in Weekly Young Magazine in July 2025. It carries forward the shared storyline of his Initial D and MF Ghost manga.

MF Ghost’s anime adaptation began with a first season in October 2023. Crunchyroll streamed it alongside its Japanese broadcast.

The second season premiered on October 6. Crunchyroll is also streaming that season with English subtitles and an English dub.

The third season premiered on January 1. Crunchyroll streamed it as it aired and also offers an English dub. A fourth season will conclude the anime.

Shigeno’s MF Ghost manga ran in Young Magazine from September 2017 to February 2025. Its 23rd and final collected volume shipped in Japan in June 2025. Kodansha USA Publishing is releasing the series in English.

Shigeno began Initial D in Young Magazine in 1995 and concluded it in July 2013. Tokyopop released its early portion in North America. Kodansha Comics and Comixology offer the complete manga in English.

Initial D also led to:

  • Multiple television anime series.
  • A live-action film.
  • Multiple original video anime projects.
  • A successful line of games.
  • A 2001 anime film.
  • An anime film trilogy, whose third installment opened in February 2016.
