The story follows Rise, a girl from the modern day who somehow finds herself in Wonderland, where she meets Alice.

Carroll's novel follows Alice as she trails a talking white rabbit down a rabbit hole into Wonderland. There, she experiences surreal encounters with the land's unpredictable rules and inhabitants.

The book ranks among pop culture's most frequently referenced literary works. Its imagery and ideas appear across virtually every medium, including anime, manga, and video games.

Nippon Animation and Apollo Film previously adapted the book into a television anime that aired in 1983–1984.

Shinohara's other directing credits include Black Butler, A Lull in the Sea, and The aquatope on white sand. Kakihara's script credits include Blue Box, Urusei Yatsura 2022, and The aquatope on white sand.
