Bandai Namco Filmworks announced Saturday that a new Future GPX Cyber Formula anime short will begin screening in Japan on February 19, 2027. It will accompany a new HD-remastered “movie edition” of the compilation OVA Future GPX Cyber Formula: Early Days Renewal.
Titled Shin Seiki GPX Cyber Formula ASURADA, the short directly continues the 1998 anime Future GPX Cyber Formula Sin. Its staff say the animation is hand-drawn, with no CG.

Character designer Hirokazu Hisayuki and chief mechanical animation director Satoshi Shigeta illustrated a poster for the short. Series director Mitsuo Fukuda is also supervising the new “movie edition” of Early Days Renewal.
Shōji Kawamori designed the short’s previously unveiled, entirely new Cyber Machine, “Zenith Asurada AKF-S0/G.” On Saturday, Bandai Namco Filmworks also unveiled his design for “Hō・Ōga AA-1,” whose romanized name remains unconfirmed.
The company also shared four still images from the short.
Bandai Entertainment issued the Future GPX Cyber Formula anime as a complete DVD collection in November 2003. Its synopsis describes a future Grand Prix racing world where driving skill and advanced technology decide the results.
After recovering Team Sugo’s Asurada GSX from would-be thieves, Hayato Kazami accidentally becomes imprinted to the racecar and enters Cyber Formula racing. He must convince himself and his teammates that he can challenge the world’s best drivers.
The Future GPX Cyber Formula television anime aired in Japan in 1991. Four OVA sequels followed:
- Future GPX Cyber Formula 11, beginning in 1992
- Future GPX Cyber Formula Zero in 1994
- Future GPX Cyber Formula Saga in 1996
- Future GPX Cyber Formula Sin in 1998
The compilation OVA Future GPX Cyber Formula: Early Days Renewal debuted in 1996.
The anime also inspired games that began as unauthorized fan creations. Those games now have authorization and receive promotion on the official website.
Another racing game, Future GPX Cyber Formula Spiral, is in development. It features an original storyline supervised by the series’ general director, Mitsuo Fukuda.
