Topco Media, which operates Toptoon and Novelpia, has renamed itself Ankey AX Co., Ltd. The company plans to expand AI content built around its webtoon properties.

Topco Media, the Korean operator of webtoon platform Toptoon, has changed its name to Ankey AX Co., Ltd. as it expands into AI-powered services. Shareholders approved the change at an extraordinary meeting on September 10.

Its KOSDAQ name will become Ankey AX after corporate registration and listing procedures finish. The company also added four areas to its stated business purposes:

  • AI content
  • AI chatbots
  • Virtual humans
  • AI solutions

Its latest AI project, Toptoon Chat, lets users hold one-on-one conversations with characters from its webtoons. The service launched in Korea in March before expanding to Japan, Taiwan, and North America.

Users can access Toptoon Chat with the same coins used in Toptoon's existing payment system. The company has also introduced World Chat, where users can interact with several characters at once.

Ankey AX plans to grow its IP × AI business by adapting existing webtoon properties into AI-generated content, including:

  • Conversations
  • Stories
  • Images

The company describes the name change as an expansion of its existing IP business, beyond a corporate rebranding. It plans to keep combining webtoon IP with AI technology and grow through its content platforms, including web novel service Novelpia.

Toptoon serves Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and North America. Its operator has already moved beyond webtoon distribution into AI-generated animation and short-form video, establishing an in-house AI studio and developing AI-based animation from its webtoon IP.
