Liar Game will return for a second season, its official website announced Tuesday. The first season aired for six months without breaks.

The official website for the television anime adapting Shinobu Kaitani’s Liar Game manga announced a second season on Tuesday. It also released a commemorative illustration by character designer Kei Tsuchiya.

The first season’s 26th and final episode aired Monday, effectively Tuesday.

The anime debuted in Japan on TV Tokyo and its affiliates on April 6, airing for six months without interruption. Its second part started July 7.

Crunchyroll streams the anime worldwide except in Japan and China. It hosted the world premiere of the first two episodes at this year’s Sakura-Con in Seattle on April 5 PDT. AMEDIATEKA distributes the series in the Russian Federation.

The first season’s staff included:

  • Chief director Yūzō Satō at Madhouse, whose credits include Kaiji -Ultimate Survivor-, Akagi, Trillion Game, and The Gene of AI.
  • Director Asami Kawano, assistant director on both seasons of The Vampire Dies in No Time and an episode director on Orb: On the Movements of the Earth.
  • Series scriptwriter and supervisor Tatsuhiko Urahata, whose credits include Baki, Baki Hanma, Monster, and Muv-Luv Alternative.
  • Character designer Kei Tsuchiya, whose credits include Laidbackers, Trillion Game, and The Gene of AI.
  • Sound director Kisuke Koizumi, whose credits include The Gene of AI, My Happy Marriage, and Ghost in the Shell Arise.

REMOW describes the story as beginning when college student Nao Kanzaki receives a mysterious letter and a suitcase holding 100 million yen. The delivery marks her selection for the LIAR GAME, a psychological contest with high stakes, driven by lies, deception, and betrayal.

Naïve and deeply honest, Nao soon finds herself trapped and seeks help from Shinichi Akiyama, a brilliant former con artist with exceptional intelligence. As they venture further into the twisted competition, they must outsmart opponents while trust can prove fatal. The story asks whether honesty can triumph in a game founded on lies.

The manga ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump from 2005 until January 2015. Shueisha released its 19th and final collected volume in May 2015.

Kaitani began a new short serialization, Liar Game: The Last Game, in Shueisha’s Grand Jump Mucha magazine on February 25.

The manga’s previous adaptations include:

  • Two live-action films.
  • Two live-action television series.
  • Two live-action online series.
  • A stage play in 2023.

Kaitani’s ONE OUTS manga also received a television anime adaptation in 2008.
