Viz Media announced a new limited Naruto television anime. An October 10 New York Comic Con panel will reveal details; its connection to four episodes delayed in 2023 remains unclear.

Viz Media announced Monday that the Naruto franchise is getting a new limited television anime series. More details will come at New York Comic Con’s “NARUTO: What's Next?” panel on October 10.

The panel starts at 5:00 p.m. EDT, or 2:00 p.m. PDT and October 11 at 6:00 a.m. JST. Viewers worldwide can watch its livestream on YouTube.

The panel’s guests include:

  • Junko Takeuchi, who voices Naruto.
  • Noriaki Sugiyama, who voices Sasuke.
  • Yoshihiro Tominaga, executive producer at Pierrot Films.

It remains unclear whether the limited series connects to four new Naruto episodes announced in 2023 for the anime’s 20th anniversary. Those episodes were scheduled to air weekly beginning in September 2023.

A week before their scheduled premiere, the episodes were postponed to improve their quality. No further news about the four episodes has emerged since August 2023.

Lionsgate is also producing a Hollywood live-action adaptation of the manga. On July 10, the franchise’s official website announced a worldwide casting search for Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura. Casting for other characters will follow later.

Charles Melton, whose credits include Riverdale and Beef, is in final negotiations to portray Kakashi Hatake, the ninja mentor.

Destin Daniel Cretton, whose credits include Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is directing. He will also produce through his company Hisako alongside Jeyun Munford.

The other listed producers are:

  • Avi Arad of Arad Productions.
  • Ari Arad of Arad Productions.
  • Emmy Yu of Arad Productions.
  • Jeremy Latcham.

Kishimoto began the Naruto ninja manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999 and concluded it in November 2014. The manga has led to:

  • The Naruto and Naruto Shippūden television anime.
  • Original video anime (OVA) projects.
  • Several anime films.
  • Spinoff manga.
  • The Boruto sequel manga and anime.
  • A series of novels.
  • Stage plays.
  • Video games.

This article was updated to include details about the four-episode anime project delayed in 2023.
